Answers to common questions to help you feel informed, prepared, and supported as you begin or continue your therapy journey.

FAQs

How do I get started?

You can begin by reaching out through the contact page. From there, you’ll receive next steps and access to the client portal to complete forms and schedule your first session.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
Do you offer a consultation?

Yes, I offer a brief 15 minute consultation to ensure we’re a good fit and to answer any initial questions you may have.

Paying for therapy

All forms, scheduling, and secure messaging are completed through the client portal.

What can I expect in therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative space where you can show up as you are. Sessions may include reflection, skill-building, and deeper exploration depending on your needs. We’ll move at a pace that feels supportive while still encouraging growth.

What if something doesn't feel right in therapy?

Your experience in therapy is important and matters. If something doesn’t feel right, you’re always welcome to share what’s coming up for you. I genuinely appreciate your feedback, as it helps me better tailor our work to support you. We can explore it together and make adjustments so the process feels more aligned and supportive.

Session length and frequency

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long and can be scheduled based on your needs, whether that’s a few times a month or more consistently. Some people come to therapy for a brief period, while others choose to continue for several months or longer. The length of your therapy journey is entirely personalized, and we will work together to create a plan that aligns with your goals.

How do I access forms or my appointments?
What if I need to cancel/reschedule?

Your session time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask for at least 24 hours notice.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments, will be charged a $25 fee, unless there is an unforeseen emergency.

The cost of therapy varies depending on the service provided. Fees and payment details will be reviewed prior to your first session, and you’re always welcome to ask questions or discuss options that feel manageable for you.

Self-Pay

Self-pay is an option for those who prefer not to use insurance for mental health services. While insurance can be helpful, it often requires a diagnosis, access to your records, and specific limitations on care. Self-pay can allow for greater privacy and flexibility.

Current self-pay rates are:

  • Diagnostic Assessment (60 minutes): $175

  • Individual Therapy (30 minutes): $100

  • Individual Therapy (50 minutes): $125

  • Family Therapy (50 minutes): $125

  • Couples Therapy (50 minutes): $125

  • Group Therapy (55 minutes): $50

  • Biofeedback Session (45–55 minutes): $125

Reduced-rate options may be available on a limited basis.

Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been discussed in advance.

Insurance

Insurance benefits can sometimes feel confusing, and you’re not expected to have it all figured out. I’m happy to help answer questions and guide you through the process as needed.

If you choose to use insurance, Sol Rise Counseling is currently in the credentialing process with several insurance providers. Coverage options and accepted plans will be updated as credentialing is finalized.

Please note that insurance may not cover the full cost of services. You are responsible for any co-pays, deductibles, or fees not covered by your plan.

Billing and Rates

Sessions are billed to insurance using standard CPT codes, depending on the type of service provided:

  • Diagnostic Assessment (60–90 minutes) — 90791

  • Individual Therapy (16–37 minutes) — 90832

  • Individual Therapy (38–52 minutes) — 90834

  • Individual Therapy (53–60 minutes) — 90837

  • Family Therapy (without identified client present) — 90846

  • Family Therapy (with identified client present) — 90847

  • Couples Therapy (45–55 minutes) — 90847

  • Group Therapy (60 minutes) — 90853

The amount billed to insurance may differ from the amount ultimately covered or reimbursed.

Coverage, copays, deductibles, and reimbursement rates are determined by your individual insurance plan and provider agreements.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate if you are not using insurance. This estimate outlines the expected cost of services based on your current needs and the information available at the time it is created.

Your Good Faith Estimate will include the anticipated cost of sessions and any related services. While it is designed to be as accurate as possible, it does not include any unexpected or unknown costs that may arise during the course of treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge.

You can request a Good Faith Estimate at any time, even before scheduling services. Estimates will be provided within required federal timeframes and updated if your services change.

If you have any questions about your estimate or what to expect, you’re always welcome to reach out for clarification.

Who do you support in your practice?

I work with teens, young adults, and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

I’m especially passionate about supporting children, teens, and families, women navigating complex roles, and individuals from marginalized backgrounds.

I offer both virtual and in-person sessions in Rochester, Minnesota. Depending on your needs and the type of work we’re doing, some sessions may be recommended in person to best support the therapeutic process.

What if I need support outside of sessions?

Therapy sessions at Sol Rise Counseling are the primary space for support. If you are experiencing a crisis or need immediate assistance, please contact a local crisis line or emergency services.

What is your response time?

I typically respond to messages within 24–48 hours during business days.

Do you currently have availability?

Availability can vary. You’re welcome to reach out through the contact page for the most up-to-date openings.
